What made you want to be a student ambassador?
I think it's a good opportunity to share my passions. Public health is such a broad field and very interdisciplinary and I really want to tell people that. People think of public health and they hear health and they're like, “it's just health.” You don't typically think of an engineer being like a involved in public health, but actually they do.
What has been your favorite Public Health & Society class so far?
I'm taking Public Health 3000 right now, and it's only been a few weeks, but I think it's really interesting because I didn't know that there were all these models and frameworks that you base research off of. And these are really useful if you want to research something, if you want to get the whole scope of your question.
Is there something about public health that you want everyone to know?
I got into public health because I was concerned about sex education, especially in high schools. I think, a lot of schools in the US, there's not a lot of sex education. That's a very ongoing issue.
And what is one thing that you're looking forward to?
I'm excited to start working on my research paper for Public Health 4011- it's Colonial and Postcolonial Water. So it's like how water fits into public health and how colonialism also affects waterways and how water is used in things like agriculture. You can pick any topic you want that has to do with that. And I'm excited to explore things like my Korean culture, I'm thinking maybe doing research on the Han River and the cultural significance of that.
