Mia, what made you want to be a student ambassador?
I came to WashU when the Public Health & Society department didn’t exist yet. I found anthropology and the global health and environment track, where I really fell in love with public health. When I saw the PH&S program was in development, I wanted to give future students the experience I did not have in public health.
What has been your favorite class so far?
I took the Public Health Research Methods class last semester and that was very helpful, especially for someone who wants to go into research. It gave me a lot of clarity in how to ethically and effectively conduct research.
What's one thing you think everyone should know about public health?
One thing everyone should know about public health is how it really does infiltrate everything. So, anyone could be working in any discipline in any field and public health would still be relevant to them and the people around them. It's really a special field in that sense because everything can affect human health.
What's one thing that you're looking forward to?
I'm taking the Public Health Theories, Models, and Frameworks class this semester, so I'm very excited to kind of learn the theories that back the practice that I've been doing for so many years. I think it will provide a really unique perspective. I want to understand why we do why we do things the way we do them.
